Why I Use Guitar Lesson DVDs
64My Story
Learning to play the guitar is no longer a life long drawn out process of weekly guitar lessons in some instructors basement and hours upon hours of practising Mary had a little lamb, or 3 blind mice. Today thanks to DVD guitar lessons you can learn much faster and from home then ever before.
The change has come about for a couple of reasons:
1.) Less expensive video equipment and production costs
2.) National & International distribution possibilities thanks to the Internet
DVD's and the Internet combined have the made the delivery of High definition video quality right to your home affordable and fast. The Internet has made it possible to sell a self study guitar program to students across the United States, Canada and Europe, opening up a much larger market then before. Because of this companies have seized an opportunity to develop high end home study programs for the guitar.
Today you can bring a world class musician and guitar teacher right into your living room on DVD video lessons. I personally have tried private guitar lessons. I found it difficult to stay motivated during these types of lessons. Each week I felt I wasn't learning enough new material and skills to keep me interested.
I'd go home and try to practice but the material again was boring. What I dreamed of was being able to play my favourite songs that I heard on the radio. It just seemed so far away when right then I was learning the notes on the guitar neck or some boring guitar theory.
Fast forward ahead to today. I no recognize that all the boring stuff I didn't want to learn when I was younger was in fact needed to become a great guitar player. While theory and scales didn't seem important, the are indeed the foundation needed to become good.
What really frustrated me was my desire to learn pushed me to want to do more each week then my private lessons were teaching me. It wasn't until I started using a self study guitar course that I really started to make some progress.
With a guitar lesson dvd set I was in control of how quickly I learned, when I watched my lessons and when I practised. I was able to learn faster because I had complete access to all the material I wanted to learn. Of course for you the opposite could hold true.
Maybe you're concerned you don't have enough time to learn guitar right now. In this instance paying for a weekly lesson would end up being a waste of money since you don't have the time to practice each week. In this instance a dvd guitar lesson course would allow you to learn at your own pace and not waste a dime on private lessons.
I think I've got my point across on just how flexible guitar lesson dvds can make learning at home. Of course the question arises which DVD's should you use? Myself I used Learn and Master Guitar. It's a complete self study program for beginners & intermediate guitar players.
I wasn't as beginner as some people might be because I had taken some lessons. Of course some of you reading this have possibly never held a guitar before. Learn & Master Guitar will work for both types of players.
The initial lessons start off explaining the very basics of how to hold and tune the guitar. Lessons then move on to the names and notes on each string and then chords. This is where I picked up since I didn't have the guitar neck memorized.
The program follows a very logical lesson sequence and is taught by a world class studio musician and instructor from Nashville TN, Steve Krenz. If you're seriously considering learning to play the guitar on your own then you have to check out this guitar lesson dvd program. It's the best product I've seen if you're interested in learning to play at home.
Legacy Learning Systems & Learn and Master Guitar
I'd recommend checking out the Learn and Master Guitar website. The company that created the system is Legacy learning systems. They have produced several other home study programs for both Piano & Drums. As well as other hobbies including Painting and Ballroom dancing. Their video quality is top notch and they only work with the best qualified instructors in each field.
The Price Difference
For a moment let's compare the cost of taking private guitar lessons Vs. Buying a dvd guitar lesson course. On the surface some of my friends thought the cost of dvd lessons was too much.
Assume you pay $15 per lesson each week. You take 50 lessons a year (2 weeks for vacation). So that is $750 a year. In comparison a complete self study course like Learn and Master guitar comes with 20 dvd guitar lessons, enough to last a year, and it only costs $149. It's a no brainier when you look at price.
